We often associate smells with different facets of our lives. The brain recognizes a scent and connects it to a memory, takes you back to something familiar; people, places etc. I had a boyfriend who wore speed stick and now when I encounter that fresh clean scent I'm instantly reminded of him. As a child my mother baked gingerbread cookies during the holidays and the smell of molasses triggers something like a scene out of 'A Christmas Carol.' Scents are very important to our cognitive psyche. We can get rid of the smell but never the memories.
